WHAT WE DO

Readers Jhapa (RJ), a vibrant public forum for reading and discussion based in Kakarvitta, is dedicated to fostering intellectual engagement and cultural exchange. It regularly hosts public talks, reading seminars, and weekly meetings of its members—all of which are open to the public. Among RJ’s many initiatives, its flagship event, Kala Sahitya Utsav, stands out as a celebrated biannual festival of art and literature. This Utsav explores the intricate interplay between culture, politics, and society, offering a unique platform where aesthetics meet the broader currents of political and social discourse. In addition to the Utsav, RJ collaborates with schools to conduct workshops on writing, painting, and slam poetry, nurturing creativity and expression among young minds. The Utsav often serves as the culmination of these workshops and the year-round seminars RJ organizes, weaving together diverse perspectives and creative efforts. For over fifteen years, RJ has remained steadfast in its mission to strengthen democracy and contribute to the creation of a more equitable, just, and environmentally conscious society. Through its unwavering commitment to these ideals, RJ continues to inspire and empower communities to think critically and act creatively.
